The problem
Google couldn't tell the Dutch and English pages apart, animations were heavy GIFs, and a few pages crashed with server errors.
What I built
- hreflang and canonical tags on every page, a 34-page sitemap and robots.txt.
- Heavy GIF animations replaced by video, about half the size.
- Browser caching, image sizes and lazy loading.
- Accessibility labels, 13 copy fixes and 10 new meta descriptions in both languages.
- Found and fixed extra problems: pages returning server errors, an empty 404 page, public test pages, and debug mode left on in production.
